Hypnotherapy
At Evolve Talking Therapies, I use hypnotherapy in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment to help you explore and overcome challenges such as anxiety, phobias, low confidence, unwanted habits (like smoking), or even to manage stress and improve sleep.
This approach isn’t about “being hypnotised” or losing control—it’s about working together to help your subconscious mind let go of unhelpful patterns and make space for positive change.
What is Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis has long been associated with all things mysterious and magical. Simply put, it is a deeply relaxed and focused state of mind brought about using a set of techniques. It is a natural state of heightened awareness which opens the mind to beneficial suggestions and engages a person’s imagination to support positive changes they wish to make to thoughts, feelings and habits or behaviours. Contrary to popular belief, it is impossible to program a person to do something against their will.
What can hypnotherapy be beneficial for?
Hypnotherapy can be beneficial for;
- Reducing stress and anxiety
- Overcoming phobias and fears
- Boosting confidence and self-esteem
- Managing pain and improving sleep
- Breaking unwanted habits such as overeating
- Smoking and cocaine addiction
What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
Each person has their own unique experience. Some people say that is feels like a daydream or being lost in their own thoughts. Whatever their individual experience, the person always retains control.
A person can drift in and out of these naturally occurring trance like states in day-to-day life. Have you ever driven to a destination and not been able to remember the journey. Sometimes a person is unable to remember anything from their trance whilst others may recall in minute detail memories that the unconscious mind has revealed whilst in trance.
How do I know if I need counselling?
If you’re feeling stuck, low in mood, anxious, or finding it hard to cope with daily life, counselling might be helpful. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people seek counselling during life transitions—such as changes in work, relationships, or health—or simply to better understand themselves. If you’re unsure, a single session can help you explore whether it’s right for you.
What types of issues can counselling help with
Counselling can support a wide range of emotional and mental health concerns including stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, grief, low self-esteem, and life direction.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes, everything we discuss is treated with strict confidentiality. Information that you share is treated with respect and without judgement. However, there are exceptions to this which are outlined in the working agreement.
I’m interested, but...what do I do next?
If you are unsure, I offer a free 20-minute session to enable you to find out more, please complete your details on the contact page and the best time for me to contact you.
This session is without further obligation. We will look at your needs and it will give you an opportunity to have any questions answered. At this point you may wish to book an appointment or have more time to think about it and get back to me when you feel ready.
What can I expect in my first counselling session?
In your first session, we’ll talk about what’s brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve. It’s a gentle, supportive conversation—there’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to. We’ll work at your pace and begin to get a sense of how you can move forward.
How many sessions do I need?
Sessions usually take place on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The number of sessions you require depends on the initial reason you decided to start your counselling journey. Some people require only a few whilst others decide to enter long-term therapy. The time frame varies and is unique to everyone. Sessions can be single one off, fixed number or ongoing therapy.

Bereavement Support
Grieving can be a difficult and isolating experience, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Bereavement coaching offers gentle and structured support to help you navigate loss and find a way forward. This service is beneficial for:
- Processing the loss of a loved one
- Coping with life transitions such as divorce or job loss
- Finding meaning and hope after significant changes
- Rebuilding confidence and emotional strength
- Finding meaning in loss
- Help with practical coping tools
What is bereavement coaching, and how can it help with grief recovery?
Bereavement coaching is a supportive process designed to help individuals navigate grief and loss. Unlike traditional counselling, coaching focuses on practical strategies to rebuild confidence, emotional resilience, and a sense of purpose after a significant loss.
How is bereavement coaching different from bereavement counselling?
Bereavement coaching is future-focused, helping you take steps toward healing and rebuilding your life. It provides guidance and tools to process grief, set new goals, and find meaning, whereas counselling is more focused on exploring emotions and the deeper psychological impact of loss.
Can bereavement coaching help with non-death losses such as divorce or job loss?
Yes, grief isn’t just about losing a loved one. Bereavement coaching can support individuals experiencing life transitions such as divorce, redundancy, retirement, or other major changes that bring about feelings of loss and uncertainty.
What can I expect from bereavement coaching sessions?
Bereavement coaching sessions provide a structured space to reflect, explore coping strategies, and set personal goals for moving forward. Sessions are tailored to your unique needs, ensuring a compassionate and non-judgmental approach to your healing process.
How long does bereavement coaching take to show results?
This is a very natural question, especially when you’re in pain and wondering when things might start to feel a little lighter. The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer—grief is deeply personal, and everyone experiences it in their own unique way.
Some clients begin to feel small shifts after just a few sessions. That might look like being able to talk about their loss without becoming overwhelmed, feeling less alone, or noticing tiny moments of peace return. For others, it may take longer—and that’s completely okay. Grief has no timeline.
Bereavement coaching isn’t about “fixing” grief or rushing you through it. Instead, it offers a safe, supportive space where you can gently explore your feelings, find ways to honour your loss, and slowly begin to rebuild. The pace is always yours.
What matters most is that you feel heard, supported, and understood with empathy. Together, we’ll work in a way that feels right for you—whether that’s a few sessions or ongoing support over time. You don’t have to walk this path alone.
You are welcome just as you are, and we will take things one step at a time
